After the four-storey building on plot WZ-6B collapsed in Uttam Nagar, killing four, residents of neighbouring houses decided to move out from the locality.
Tazim, who lives next to the collapsed building, said he does not want to risk the lives of his three-year-old daughter Zainab and his wife. His house was damaged when the adjoining building collapsed.
We might move out now. My wife is also not willing to stay in the house that has witnessed such a tragic episode. My daughter was good friends with Jay,the two-year old who died in the collapse. She is in shock, said Tazim, who works as a manager with a private firm.
Tazims living room has debris scattered across it.
We heard a thud and a floor of that building came crashing into the window of my house. My daughter saw the building come down and began crying.
Immediately after crash,Tazim handed his daughter to onlookers through his balcony.
I thought that our building, too, will come down in a few minutes. Now,my daughter keeps asking me whether our house will also crumble one day, he said.
For now,Tazim has sent his wife and daughter to his in-laws house and is waiting for the rescue work finish. I will look for another house for my family, he said.
People who live as tenants in the area are also planning to move.
Sujata, who also lives close to the collapsed structure and witnessed the incident, said she was scared and has now asked her husband to look for another house.
Buying a house in Delhi is not easy, but our life is at stake here. The remains of the collapsed building fell right at the entrance of my house,it also created some cracks which might eventually lead to a collapse. I want to go from here. Who wants to live in an area where there is no security and the authorities do not pay any heed to the complaints of the residents, she said.
