A week after she was operated upon for spinal injuries she suffered during police action at Ramlila grounds,53-year-old Rajbala Malik underwent a tracheostomy procedure at the GB Pant Hospital. In the course of the procedure,an insertion was made into her wind pipe for prolonged ventilatory support.
Doctors said her condition had been stable for the last 24 hours and there were no fluctuations in her heart rate and blood pressure.
Rajbala has been diagnosed with post-traumatic fracture dislocation in C4 and C5 vertebra,and will be a quadriplegic for life.
Doctors have confirmed that there is very little chance of recovery in limb function.
She was operated for a decompression and fixation using plate,screw and cage on June 5 and her stitches were removed on Monday. A medical bulletin from the hospital said her surgical wound was also inspected and found to be clean and healthy. Her vitals are being maintained with pharmacological support and she is on ventilatory support.
