Chittaranjan Locomotive Works started the production of WP class locomotives in 1963. The first locomotive manufactured in February 1963 was named Vivekananda.

Chittaranjan Locomotive Works started the production of WP class locomotives in 1963. The first locomotive manufactured in February 1963 was named Vivekananda. A stamp showing one such loco was issued on May 15,1976. The loco featured on the stamp is one of the first locos to be manufactured at CLW in 1963.

Know Your Exhibits: EM-922 (NWR)
The EM-922 was built in 1907 by the North British Steam Locomotive Company. This beautiful locomotive was used to haul passenger trains on the Great Indian Peninsular Railway and North Western Railway Systems. In 1922,it was converted to work on a super-heated type system and in 1941 it was re-built by the Mughalpura Workshops when its classification was changed from E 1 to EM type. This remarkable locomotive was often used for hauling dignitaries of the past. A locomotive of many names,it changed its names from Lord Clyde,then Roosevelt and finally Queen Express. This broad gauge locomotive has attractive wheels almost 2 meter in diameter,making these the largest wheels ever to run a locomotive of the Indian Railways. This locomotive is preserved at the National Rail Museum.
