The centre is accused of allowing non-qualified individuals to perform surgical procedures on patients. The Delhi Police has arrested an alleged quack in connection with the Greater Kailash nursing home case and conducted raids at the centre as well as other clinics to seize all the “outdated” equipment. The accused, identified as 42-year-old Zulfiqar, is a pharmacy graduate who allegedly posed as a doctor and ran a separate clinic in Sangam Vihar.
The Delhi Police has already arrested Dr Niraj Agrawal, his wife Dr Pooja, a lab technician Mahendra Singh and Dr Jaspreet Singh for allegedly running the nursing home in E-Block of GK-1, with no proper training or qualifications. During probe, police found Zulfiqar used to help Niraj and his aides by getting more patients to their nursing home.
Meanwhile, investigation revealed that Niraj owns high-end cars — Mercedes and a BMW, police said, adding both were bought with the money earned from nursing home. Police said Niraj would rent the cars for weddings and events and charged almost Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 for each trip/event. “We found transactions linked to the side business. Niraj would either rent the car or drive it himself to earn more money,” added the officer.
DCP (South) Chandan Chowdhary said, “Zulfiqar runs a separate clinic and medicine shop in Sangam Vihar, where he sells homeopathy and allopathy medicines, despite not having a valid license. He came in contact with Niraj a few years ago after seeing a card from the clinic. Niraj used to pay him 35% of the total amount (received from patients) for getting patients to the nursing home.”
According to the police, Zulfiqar has been working with the nursing home for at least 5-6 years and he used to send patients who were in need of a kidney stone operation and pregnant woman (for delivery) to GK. For small ailments, he allegedly used to give medicines himself, they said.
Investigators found multiple transactions made from Niraj’s Phone Pe account to Zulfiqar’s. “It was Zulfiqar who found a patient named Asghar Ali last year. Ali was in need of a gallbladder stones operation…he died during the treatment,” the DCP said.
During interrogation, police found that Zulfiqar sent more than 50 patients to the nursing home, where the accused mainly operated on abdominal issues, abortion and delivery. For each operation, Niraj charged Rs 50,000- Rs 60,000.
A source claimed that Zulfiqar administered anaesthesia or some medicine to Ali before the surgery with no knowledge or training.
