"Prices of tomatoes, and onions are so high that we cannot eat these at home," the women had told Gandhis while visiting Sonia's Delhi residence. The labourers complained about the skyrocketing prices of essentials like onions, tomatoes, fertilisers, gas cylinders, electricity and diesel, among others. “Things have become so expensive now. A common person with responsibilities can’t buy tomatoes at Rs 200 per kilo,” one of the women told the Gandhis.
