Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Sunday said Delhi would be a safer city if law and order was under the Delhi government instead of the Centre through the L-G. This came after two sisters were shot dead in a South Delhi colony near RK Puram in the early hours of Sunday.
Law and order in Delhi comes under the Centre through the L-G, along with police, land, and after the Centre’s ordinance, services. “Our thoughts are with the families of both women. May their souls rest in peace. The people of Delhi have started feeling very unsafe. Instead of fixing the law and order of Delhi, they (Centre) are conspiring to capture governance in the whole of Delhi. If today, the law and order situation was under the AAP government instead of L-G, Delhi would have been the safest,” Kejriwal tweeted.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, however, said Sunday’s incident was the result of a fight between two people and that Kejriwal was politicising the issue. “If there is a fight between two people during which there is violence, then how can it be called a bad law and order situation, especially when the Delhi Police is alert enough to arrest the accused criminals within a few minutes?” he said.

He also tried to corner the AAP-led MCD over the fire in a building that housed at least three coaching centres in Mukherjee Nagar. “How insensitive the Chief Minister is was also seen from the recent fire. Mukherjee Nagar is just five minutes away from the Chief Minister’s residence, but he did not consider it necessary to go there,” he added.
AAP’s Sanjay Singh, meanwhile, said the law and order situation in Delhi was deteriorating. “We continue to witness horrifying incidents where the daughters of Delhi endure unimaginable tragedies due to the escalating crime rates in our city… It is evident that both L-G VK Saxena, and Home Minister Amit Shah have failed to provide a safe environment for women in Delhi,” he said.
