Artist Roy Thomas’ latest solo,Unexpected Revelation,on at the Arushi Arts Gallery,in Okhla Phase-I,plays with media imagery of issues like terrorism, war, religion, the loss of innocence and the degradation of the planet. Some of his photo-realist oil on canvases make obvious statements by using startling juxtapositions of imagery. For instance, the 44-year-old Roy places a girl dressed as an angel with a windmill in her hand next to a large lion. “I have spent three years working on this exhibition. It takes time to arrive at my canvases and the process is a time-consuming one,” says the Kerala born Thomas, who studied at the Delhi College of Art. In another canvas, veiled Muslim women are seen bending in prayer, while a little girl looks up. Tiny war planes are flying over her and the implication of impending violence is obvious. The exhibition is on till December 12.
