Peak power demand touches 7,398 MW, highest this year

The capital’s peak power demand clocked its highest at 7,398 MW this season on Friday, with power distribution companies (discoms) successfully meeting in their respective areas.

While it clocked 3,186 MW in areas being serviced by the BRPL, the peak power demand in the BYPL’s area was clocked at 1,670 MW, according to sources.

Both discoms, which service nearly 49 lakh residents in South, West, East and Central Delhi, had employed advanced load forecasting tools using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to forecast power demand on the one hand while over 1,500 MW of green power was also playing an important role in powering the capital, sources said.

Arrangements to meet peak power demand, sources added, included long term ones with other states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Sources said green power was playing an important role in ensuring reliable power during the summer months in BSES areas.
