As per the police, in 2011 Singh killed a businessman in Delhi over a property issue and dumped the body in Gurugram. A national weightlifting champion, who has been hiding for more than five years in over 24 criminal cases, was arrested by the Crime Branch on Sunday, police said.
Delhi Police said Vijay Singh is involved in over a dozen murder, attempted murder and assault cases in NCR. To protect himself, Singh had hired four bodyguards at his farmhouse in Jabalpur, MP, said police.
Police said both of Singh’s sons are lawyers and were involved in arguing his case.
As per the police, in 2011 Singh killed a businessman in Delhi over a property issue and dumped the body in Gurugram. Before this, along with his aides, Singh had abducted and threatened other targets over properties across Delhi. Police said they had nabbed Singh the same year, but in 2018 he jumped parole.
Ravindra Singh Yadav, Special Commissioner (Crime), said, “Ever since he jumped parole, he had been changing hideouts to evade arrest. We found that Singh has been a serial offender since 1988. He always got out, only to again target businessmen over property. After escaping parole, we found he was involved in another extortion case in Vasant Kunj.” He added: “We found that he was hiding in Jabalpur. A team of more than seven police personnel was sent to ensure he is arrested and brought to Delhi,” added Yadav.
Interrogation revealed Singh was a national-level athlete. He had allegedly changed his name from Vijay to Vikram after escaping jail officials. “After two years of hiding, he decided to come to MP where he had been running a business of buying land, villas and farms, and selling them at higher prices to gullible buyers,” said an officer.
