Old Rajinder nagar triple murder: Cops scan calls, probe teams in UP, Haryana

As many as 25 police teams have been put on the case, DCP (Central) Paramaditya said Monday.

Real estate businessman Sanjay who was found murdered with his wife and their son in their Old Rajinder Nagar home Sunday recently received a call from a number used in a phone that a person lost a few weeks ago, according to sources.

Investigations have also thrown up two “suspicious” phone numbers which were active in Old Rajinder Nagar area at the time Saturday night when the family is suspected to have been killed, said the sources. Both phones have been switched off since, the sources added.

“The last location of one of these two phones was in Uttar Pradesh,” said a source close to the investigation. After scanning Sanjay’s call detail records, police questioned four persons before letting them go, added the source.

As many as 25 police teams have been put on the case, DCP (Central) Paramaditya said Monday. “We have sent one team to Uttar Pradesh and another to Haryana. The initial post-mortem report suggests all three victims were strangled,” he added.

The bodies of Sanjay (52), his wife Jyoti (48) and their son Pawan (21), an engineering student, were found inside their third floor apartment Sunday morning. The initial post-mortem report suggests the time of death to be close to midnight Saturday, which is about three hours after Sanjay was last seen getting food from a nearby eatery, said a source.

“We are suspecting at least one of the assailants joined the family for dinner, as four plates with leftover food were found. Later, two to three others joined him before the attack,” added the source.

Sanjay was an accused in as many as 10 cases related to property disputes.
