The Municipal Corporation of Delhis Standing Committee on Wednesday discussed unauthorised constructions in the city,with special focus on Okhla.
Sarita Chaudhary,Deputy Chairperson of the Committee,slammed the Building department officials for implementing a pick n choose policy.
Junior engineers visit villages and unauthorised colonies where MCDs building bylaws are not applicable,but do not touch any illegally raised constructions in Okhla, he said.
Criticising the Delhi governments Special Task Force (STF) for action against illegal constructions in the city,she said criminal complaints are lodged against people who carry out repairs in their houses in certain colonies or Lal Dora areas, but no one bothers about similar constructions in Okhla area.
Blaming the MCD for its lackadaisical approach,Leader of Opposition Jai Kishan Sharma alleged that defying the Supreme Court order and notification of the Delhi Development Authority,approval was given to construct a group housing society in Shahdara on Mandoli Road,which has a width of 7.5 metres only.
Municipal Commissioner K S Mehra assured that the matter will be looked into. Properties constructed upto February 2007 have immunity under Delhi Special Law,but action is being taken against construction added since then, he said.
