Days after an under-construction building collapsed in Southeast Delhi’s Okhla, killing two people and injuring six others, the Delhi Police have arrested its 42-year-old owner.

DCP (Southeast) Rajesh Deo said Tarun Garg, the owner of the property, has been held in connection with the case.

On Thursday, the DCP said they received a PCR call regarding the collapse at Sanjay Colony in the Okhla Industrial area where a basement was being constructed and the ground was dug 20 feet deep. “Suddenly, the ground on the roadside gave way and collapsed due to which the workers came under the mound…two of them succumbed to injuries in hospital while six were admitted with major to minor injuries in nearby hospitals,” the DCP said earlier. A case under IPC sections pertaining to causing death by negligence was lodged in connection with the incident.

Atul Garg, DFS Chief, said earlier, “A total of 13 persons were found trapped inside the building. Some of them were trapped deep under the debris. We managed to rescue and shift them to hospitals.”
