Noida man finds plastic glove inside sandwich ordered through Zomato, company says ‘absolutely shocked to hear’

A Noida resident claimed he found a plastic glove wrapped inside a sandwich that he ordered from a city-based restaurant Thursday, sparking alarm over food preparation practices and hygiene at restaurants.

Satish Sarawagi posted two pictures on X, one of the sandwich and the other showing his order from Noida-based restaurant chain, Salad Days, tagging Zomato and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), calling it a serious hygiene concern.

Sarawagi had ordered two sandwiches, a broccoli, corn and basil pesto sandwich and a smoked cottage cheese and pepper sandwich, through the Zomato app. When he received the order, he discovered a disposable plastic glove placed inside one of the sandwiches.

“I ordered a sandwich and found a glove inside the food!. This is unacceptable and a serious hygiene concern. Please investigate and respond ASAP,” his post read.

In another post, tagging Zomato, he wrote, “But it was scary, we are still shocked. no action by Zomatocare yet.”

Zomato responded later, expressing shock over the serious hygiene concern and promising to investigate the matter with their restaurant partner.

“Hi Satish, we’re absolutely shocked to hear about this. We can’t begin to imagine how upsetting this must have been for you. Please allow us some time so that we can take this up with the restaurant partner, we’ll get in touch with you to discuss this further,” said Zomato.

Soon, Salad Days addressed the incident and said it had launched a thorough investigation with its quality assurance team. It also said that the kitchen where the sandwich was prepared has been flagged for urgent review.

The restaurant also asked the customer to share their contact details privately to coordinate directly and make sure the issue is appropriately resolved.

“We’re taking this matter extremely seriously and have immediately launched a thorough investigation with our quality assurance team. This kitchen has been flagged for urgent review. Please DM us your contact details so we can coordinate directly and ensure this is resolved properly,” said Salad Days.
