Neighbour held for bid to rape 8-year-old girl

She was playing outside her house in Nangloi when the youth lured her to his house.

An 18-year-old on Friday attempted to rape his eight-year-old neighbour in West Delhi’s Nangloi area. The youth was apprehended after the child’s parent raised the alarm and police were alerted.

A senior police officer said, “The eight-year-old girl was playing outside her house when her neighbour came and lured her into going to his house.

He took her home, promising to show her a game on his mobile phone. Once, he had taken her to his house, he tried to rape her.

The girl’s mother, however, came looking for her. When she asked other neighbours about her daughter, she was told that the 18-year-old youth had taken her to his house.

The mother rushed to the youth’s house and raised an alarm. Residents in the area caught the youth and beat him up.”

Police said the girl’s mother made a PCR call. Police took the youth into custody after an FIR was registered under appropriate sections of the POCSO Act.

The girl’s parents are daily-wage labourers. Police said the child’s mother was cooking when the incident took place. The youth was unemployed and used to live in a rented accommodation in the colony, police said.
