NCERT textbook to boost job opportunities

The NCERT has prepared a craft textbook to help students seek jobs in the sector that offers a lot of employment options.

The Living Craft Tradition of India textbook is also aimed at equipping students with skills so they can start their own ventures.

The textbook will be introduced from the coming academic session in Class XI and will be an elective subject for all streams. The subject,which will also be taught in Class XII,will broaden employment opportunities for students,officials said.

The textbook covers heritage,clay,stone,metal,jewellery,natural fibre,paper,textile,painting and theatre craft.

The idea for the textbook originated in the National Curriculum Framework of 2005,the aim of which is to increase the number of viable job opportunities at the senior secondary level.
