Month after robbery in Delhi's Shadipur, 3 ex-delivery agents arrested for looting quick commerce company's staff of Rs 5 lakhInvestigators added that even as the three arrested men have no previous criminal record, they said they were involved in two snatching incidents registered earlier this year at Ranjit Nagar police station.

A month after a collection agent of a quick commerce company was looted of Rs 5 lakh in Delhi’s Shadipur, three men who previously worked as delivery agents with the firm have been arrested, officers said on Saturday.

The trio was traced to Gonda in Uttar Pradesh after more than a month of technical surveillance, CCTV analysis and local intelligence gathering, said police.

A police team was sent to Gonda, where, with the help of local sources, the accused — identified as Ram Avtar (24), Sikander (25) and Veeru Sonkar (20) — were arrested. Manoj, one of their accomplices who still works with the company and helped them plot the robbery, is still absconding.

The police recovered Rs 1.37 lakh in cash, a motorcycle and an iPhone purchased from the stolen money. Officers have frozen a bank account containing Rs 1.53 lakh, believed to be a share of the robbery proceeds.

According to officers, the incident took place on October 22 when the collection agent was riding a scooter after collecting Rs 5 lakh from different vendors. Around 3 pm, when he reached Shadipur, three men on a motorcycle allegedly intercepted him, blocked his way and forcibly took away the cash bag.

A PCR call was made soon after, and a case under sections 309(4), 309(6), 312 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Ranjit Nagar police station.

Investigators began scanning CCTV footage from multiple points along the victim’s route and identified the motorcycle used in the robbery. A verification check revealed the vehicle had been stolen, after which the police widened their search.

The police said they were able to obtain clear images of the suspects from CCTV cameras and circulated them among informers.

Initial leads suggested the men were living on rent in the Faridpuri area and hailed from Gonda. Officers then identified mobile numbers believed to be used by the suspects and traced their movements through call detail records.

The numbers showed that all three had travelled back to Uttar Pradesh soon after the robbery.

Following the arrest, Ram Avtar, said police, allegedly led the police to Rs 1.37 lakh in cash. Veeru had reportedly used his share of the robbery money to clear the loan on a motorcycle, which has been seized. He had also purchased an iPhone using the cash.

Sikander, meanwhile, had deposited Rs 1.53 lakh into his bank account, which has now been frozen. The clothes worn by the men during the robbery, as seen in CCTV footage, were also recovered.

“During the questioning, all the three accused told the police that they were involved in the offence. They also disclosed that they used to work with two delivery companies, as each of them had registered IDs on these applications. It was further revealed that the one of their co-accused Manoj, who is still absconding, works at a Patel Nagar outlet and was the one who provided information about the complainant, including the fact that he was carrying cash, as well as details such as the complainant’s scooter number, scooter colour, and other particulars,” said DCP Central Nidhin Valsan.

Investigators added that even as the three arrested men have no previous criminal record, they said they were involved in two snatching incidents registered earlier this year at Ranjit Nagar police station.

Senior officers said further investigation is underway to arrest Manoj and to verify whether the group was involved in any other crimes in the city.
