4 minors detained, man arrested after teen stabbed to death in southwest Delhi

A 38-year-old man was arrested and four minors were detained Sunday for allegedly stabbing to death a 16-year-old boy and injuring another 18-year-old in southwest Delhi Saturday. All the accused juveniles are in the 16-17 years age group.

While one of the victims was found dead with multiple stab wounds, the other received a bullet injury, said DCP (southwest) Surendra Chowdhary. The 18-year-old sustained a gunshot injury on his back, while the other minor was declared brought dead to the hospital.

The main accused, Sanjay Mehlawat, had planned to kill both victims over a previous dispute after one of them had attacked a minor who is among the current accused, the DCP said. Mehlawat allegedly sent the juveniles, including the assaulted minor, to attack the two boys.

Around 5:45 pm on Saturday, the police were alerted about a stabbing incident. A police team, who subsequently arrived at the spot, found an empty bullet shell. The two injured persons were taken to Safdarjung Hospital.

The 18-year-old injured victim, in his statement to the police, said that he and his friends were in the area when three people came and allegedly attacked the duo. He was allegedly shot on the back, while his friend was chased and stabbed multiple times. He allegedly named Mehlawat for the attack. The accused have been charged with murder, and attempt to murder under sections of the Arms Act in the FIR, police said.
