MCD employee hangs himself from park tree

A 50-Year-Old man committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at a DDA park in Shahpurjat on Monday.

A 50-YEAR-OLD man committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at a DDA park in Shahpurjat on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Virendra Kumar (50),a resident of Shahpurjat who was employed as a tax collector with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

The matter came to light when Police received a call from a passerby at 7 am on Monday. “We were informed that a man who was found hanging from a tree in the park. We went to the spot and took the body to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for a post-mortem examination,” a senior police officer said. No suicide note was found at the spot.

Kumar used to live in a joint family along with his parents and brother’s family. When questioned,his family told the police that he never seemed unhappy in his personal life. “He left home at 4 am for a morning walk in a nearby park. He was happy with his work,and I do not know what went wrong in his life,and made him take this extreme step. We are shocked as there was absolutely no differences in his domestic life. We are a happy and peaceful family,” said Mahesh Kumar,brother of the victim.

Kumar is survived by his wife,three daughters and two sons. As his wife was not employed,he was the sole breadwinner of the family. Stating that the matter is being investigated,a police officer said,“We are trying to find all the possible reasons for him committing suicide. We will also question people at his workplace.”
