Tenth arrest Cheating racket was busted on Sunday,a few hours before the exam was to be conducted.
An MCD lower division clerk has been arrested by the Crime Branch in the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) exam paper leak case. With the arrest of Bijender Chikkara on Monday, the total number of arrests has now stands at 10.
The cheating racket was busted on Sunday,a few hours before the exam was to be held for post of Income Tax inspectors and CBI sub-inspectors across schools and universities in the country.
Police said the nine persons who were arrested earlier had said they had been provided the examination papers from by Chikkara. While the nine were arrested from a flat in Outer Delhi, where they were solving the question papers to send to the candidates,Chikkara managed to evade arrest.
Police are yet to get to the source of the leak as Chikkara has claimed that he was supplied the examination papers by a person named Sushil, who runs a coaching institute in Bawana.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav confirmed Chikkaras arrest, but refused to give further details. We are working on the case. I do not want to make any further comments, Yadav said.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch now probing if the recently held Delhi Police sub-inspectors examination had been rigged too. One of the accused among the nine arrested on Sunday is Head Constable Ajit Singh Khatri, who said he received the SSC question paper on email from Chikkara.
Police sources said Khatris questioning revealed that he had topped the sub-inspectors examination held two months ago. There were a total of 330 vacancies for the Delhi Police sub-inspectors examination. Police are now looking into Khatris role and verifying his links with other selected candidates to probe of a possible question paper leak for the Delhi Police S-I examination.
Of the 10 people who have been arrested, two are MA students and one is a sales tax inspector who is awaiting the results of the UPSC interview results. Four MCD teachers,a Delhi Police constable and a clerk with the MEA are also among those arrested.
Police said Chikkara told them that the question papers for the exam were sold for Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
It was the lure of becoming an inspector in the CBI and income tax department that many of the candidates were willing to give several lakhs for the question paper. These nine (arrested earlier) were in touch with each other since the past six months. It is possible that they managed to get a copy of other competitive exams too as they claim many people in their Haryana village have become inspectors, a police source said.
