At the home of Saksham Pruthi, who was electrocuted at a gym in Rohini, his family alleged the management initially told them he had died of a heart attack. They also said he was planning on quitting the gym soon.

“The gym owner called us and said Saksham had suffered a heart attack while lifting heavy weights and was being taken to a nearby hospital. We were rushing there when we received another call around 7.30 am saying he was at BSA hospital,” said his cousin, Mukul Pruthi.

“They (the gym) should be punished for lying to us and using old machines. We later found two-three other men also suffered an electric shock while trying to help Saksham,” added Mukul.

The family said Saksham was a tech genius who loved coding and creating Android apps. Last year, he joined a dog grooming and products app named Sploot where he worked on app product development and research.

The family said Saksham was highly ambitious and wanted to work for MNCs in the future. He even started a podcast on Spotify to talk about technology. His aunt Priya said, “Had we believed the gym management, we would have never found out the truth. We were all so proud of Saksham since he had started working at a young age and was doing well for himself. He had joined the gym only two months ago.”

The FIR lodged in the case mentions an eyewitness, Keshav Kumar, who was also exercising at the gym at the time of the incident. Speaking to The Indian Express, Keshav said: “I was exercising when I saw Saksham resting on the treadmill… and suddenly fall. I went to help him and suffered a minor shock. We tried to give him CPR but it didn’t work. We took him to the hospital but he died…” “The machines look faulty and old,” he claimed.
