Man held in Lado Sarai for murder of constable

A man accused of stealing cattle,who is also a member of a gang from Mewat that crushed a constable to death in Bharat Nagar in May last year,was arrested by Crime Branch,Delhi Police said on Wednesday.

Police had declared a reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to the his arrest.

The accused,Asfaq (22),was with the gang when they crushed the constable,who was giving chase on a motorcycle.

The constable was on patrol duty when he was killed.

“Acting on a tip-off,that the accused Asfaq would be coming to meet his associate near

Lado Sarai on June 11,a trap was laid and he was arrested. He is an active member of the Mewati gang involved in the theft of cattle as well as other crimes in Delhi and NCR. To commit

such crimes,the gang used modified vehicles,preferably a Tata 407,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.

On the intervening night on May 17 and 18,the gang was returning with stolen cattle.

Police said they were intercepted by the police vehicle and in the process of escaping,when Asfaq along with his associates rammed the police motorcycle,leading to the death of constable Naresh and injuring constable DHG Shankar from the Bharat Nagar police station.

He is a close relative of co-accused Shakir,the head of

the gang who was earlier arrested by Crime Branch,and is involved in criminal activities for the past six years.
