Man arrested for rape of woman since 2021

The police said Bisht came in contact with the woman through a common friend after his wife died by suicide.

A man was arrested from Delhi on Wednesday for allegedly raping a woman since February 2021 on the pretext marrying her.

In her complaint to the police, the woman has alleged that Vijay Kumar Bisht (35) raped her multiple times and threatened to circulate her offensive photographs and videos on social media if she informed anyone of the matter, the police said.

“An FIR was lodged into the matter on October 16 following the victim’s medical examination and counselling by the Delhi Commission for Women,” said Surendra Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West Delhi). Hours later, Bisht was arrested.

The police said Bisht came in contact with the woman through a common friend after his wife died by suicide. “He has been sent to judicial custody,” the DCP said.
