Fully furnished changing rooms, makeup rooms that will accomodate five-six persons each with attached washrooms, a common room and a drawing room — the Garden of Five Senses in Delhi’s Chhatarpur will soon get a mega revamp, in a bid to make an exclusive facility to promote pre-wedding, bridal, and other film shooting.

A senior official said that the Garden is one of the popular destinations for “pre-wedding photoshoots” in the Capital. “On an average, we see two to five pre-wedding shoots and filming every day. This goes beyond 10 during the peak wedding season, especially in winter — between October and March-end… Shooting for web series, short films, documentaries, and feature films also take place here. However, there is no proper changing room for brides at present,” said the official.

“At present, women struggle to change clothes in public… The plan has been proposed. So, keeping in view their comfort and safety… Wedding shooting is not done in Dilli Haat as it is mainly a place for shopping, but the department has planned to develop a fully furnished babysitting room…,” said the official, adding that tenders have been floated for the Rs 40-50 lakh (approximately) project.

The Delhi Tourism department plans mega redevelopment of the Garden along the lines of the Singapore-model gardens and parks i.e. having cafes and restaurants, guest rooms, and staycation facilities to promote ecotourism and increase the footfall of tourists as well as locals.

“The revamping plan is almost ready, and will soon be submitted for administrative and financial approval… The daily average footfall of this park is around 1,000 people… At present, there are only a few food kiosks, but there’s a plan to construct a restaurant or cafe to attract more people… There’s also redevelopment plans for this park along the lines of the Singapore model, with a variety of plants, flowers, cycle tracks, buddha and jain gardens, and play activities…,” said the official.

There’s a plan for guest rooms as in staycation facilities, where people can spend their weekend in the nature with their families and friends, said the official. “Once the approvals come, work will be underway in the next three months..,” said the official.

Visitors will have to pay for recording videos and films, said officials.

When senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia was the tourism minister, now in jail, there were proposals to implement fun activities like bungee jumping, and rock climbing among other renovation work, but the forest department did not grant a permission to the project.
