On Independence Day, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa to be lit up in India’s tricolour

Ahead of Independence Day, various events are already underway across the UAE, where members of the Indian community are coming together to celebrate.

On Friday, August 15, when India marks the 79th Independence Day, Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, will adorn the tricolours of the Indian flag. Burj Khalifa being lit up in the tricolour has become an indispensable part of the Independence Day celebrations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by the Indian community.

Independence Day celebrations in UAE

According to the Indian Consulate in Dubai,  Burj Khalifa will be lit up in the tricolour at 7.50 pm local time on August 15. A Gulf News report added that other key landmarks in the UAE are also expected to light up in the Indian tricolour on the occasion that marks 79 years of India’s Independence.

Meanwhile, keeping in mind the summer temperatures, Indian diplomatic missions in the UAE have advanced the flag hoisting ceremonies on August 15th. The Indian Consulate in Dubai will hold the flag hoisting at 6.30 am, while the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi will hold the event at 7.15 am on Friday.

In Abu Dhabi, Ambassador Sanjay Sudhir will hoist the Indian flag, and Consul General Satish Kumar Sivan will lead the ceremony in Dubai on the occasion of Independence Day.

Indian community in UAE

Indians make up the largest group of the expat population in the UAE. There are approximately 4.3 million resident Indian nationals in the UAE, which is around 35 per cent of the country’s population.

Ahead of Independence Day, various events are already underway across the UAE, where members of the Indian community are coming together to celebrate. Earlier this week, the Indian Consulate in Dubai organised a mega blood donation camp, in which around 270 people, including Ashish Verma, Consul (Passport), donated blood.

The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi has also been hosting several events in partnership with Indian businesses and organisations to mark the 79th Independence Day.
