Magic Flute in Delhi

Listening to the soothing notes of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a charming way to start the New Year.

Listening to the soothing notes of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a charming way to start the New Year. In a global and cultural fusion, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations has brought together musicians from the world over, including France,Austria,Russia and New Zealand,to perform at Central Park in Connaught Place on January 6. The collaborative venture titled “Mozart Magic in India” will feature 19 musicians from the Rouen Opera House of France, alongside members of the Bombay Chamber Orchestra and Neemrana Music Foundation.

Established in 1988,the Rouen Opera House is trained in Mozart’s music by Austrian conductor and violinist Oswald Sallaberger. The lineup features renowned pieces by Mozart, including The Magic Flute,Idomeneo and The Marriage of Figaro. “This is the first time that ICCR is taking Western classical music to the people in an open space,” says Suresh K Goel, director general,ICCR. The concert will have two distinct parts. While the first half will feature selections from The Magic Flute, lasting about 45 to 50 minutes, the second half will feature seven acts from Idomeneo,Cosi Fan Tutte and The Marriage of Figaro. “The collaboration between French and Indian musicians should be interesting,” adds Goel.

The group will also perform at Siri Fort auditorium on January 8 and 9,and then travel east,to perform on the banks of the Brahmaputra in Assam on January 11.

The “Mozart Magic in India” will be held on January 6 at Central Park,Connaught Place, from 3 pm to 5 pm. Contact: 9811423444.
