Lt-Governor lists steps to streamline GTB hospital

Jung had earlier directed Health department officials to take steps to convert Lok Nayak Hospital in Central Delhi and GTB Hospital into model hospitals.

gtb-maim Hospital authorities said Jung had suggested improving the Registration services in the OPD and pharmacy counters to manage the crowd of patients, and thus reduce the waiting period.

Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung inspected Delhi government’s Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) hospital on Tuesday and instructed that immediate steps be taken to correct long-standing problems of the hospital.

Jung had earlier directed Health department officials to take steps to convert Lok Nayak Hospital in Central Delhi and GTB Hospital into model hospitals, “on a par with any healthcare institution in Delhi”.

The hospital authorities appraised the L-G of problems associated with patient load, space constraints, the need for upgrading facilities in the kitchen and laundry sections, need for traffic regulation, setting up of a proper information management system related to patient records, and human resources management.

Interacting with hospital authorities, Jung said, “While there is increasing pressure on existing facilities, hospitals must augment their infrastructure and services keeping their future needs in mind. This must be part of the planning process.”

Hospital authorities said Jung had suggested improving the registration services in the OPD and pharmacy counters to manage the crowd of patients, and thus reduce the waiting period.

The Lt-Governor also instructed the additional commissioner of police (Northeast) to immediately address the issues related to parking, traffic regulation, security and menace of touts in consultation with the hospital staff.

He spent close to two hours at the hospital and interacted with patients, doctors and hospital staff. He visited the OPD wings, the diabetic, endocrine and metabolic care block, the mother and child block, and the pharmacy.

“We need to mainstream the element of care in our hospitals right from the moment the patient walks in until the patient leaves the hospital premises,” Jung said while highlighting the importance of the term ‘care’ in healthcare and medicalcare.
