If socialist Siberia once swooned to the love songs of Raj Kapoor,a few in capitalist Tokyo is still humming them. The clear favourite though is AR Rahman. For proof, you had to listen to a trio of Japanese musicians who flew into the Capital for “India Dreams”,an evening of Bollywood and popular Japanese music. “We love Indian music, especially songs from Rahman’s Bollywood Dreams ,” said the vocalist Kyoko Ikeya (above),who with singer Yusuke Yanai (top) and pianist Shuhei Narumi created a medley in slightly accented Hindi. Ikeya, dressed in a turquoise kurta, began the performance with songs from Bollywood Dreams, and was joined by Yanai who got the crowd cheering for him as he sang and danced to Mera joota hai Japaani from Shri 420 and Sayonara from Love in Tokyo.
