Raising concerns over security during sport events, seven live cartridges were found from the mens toilet of Feroz Shah Kotla stadium two hours before the India-Australia one-day match on October 31.
The cartridges were found during the routine check before the match. They were in a sack resting on a wall of a mens toilet on the second floor near the scoreboard, located at the rear of the stadium, said an officer.
According to the FIR,a head constable from the bomb detection team,Paharganj, went to check inside the toilet around noon and found the sack,a short rope and few documents. An FIR under the Arms Act was registered at the IP Estate police station.
The police and security agencies are yet to find out who brought the cartridges in. A senior officer, however, said there was no security issue involved as they suspect that the cartridges belong to a security personnel posted at the stadium, who was careless in its handling. We are trying to ascertain whose cartridges they were, he said.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Northern Range),Karnal Singh said they are investigating the case from all angles. No one has come to us with any complaint of lost articles till now and we dont have a suspect, he said.
Singh added that they had taken over the stadium security from the authorities a night before the match. The police are also investigating whether any private person has brought the cartridges in.
