Rising mercury,soaring prices,scary crime graph,demanding partners and now,Rahul Dravid’s retirement — really,is there anything to laugh about any more? Yet,the India Comedy Fest,to be held at FICCI on March 31 and April 1,promises to have you guffawing on the floor.

On the roster are comic film screenings,stand-up acts,Haasya Kavi Sammelan,a play that follows Ghalib’s adventures in modern-day Delhi,and the Kela Awards that honour the worst in Bollywood,among others. Add to this cauldron,Surendra Sharma’s deadpan potshots at the conventional husband-wife relationship,Sanjay Rajoura’s take on the “Jatland” commentary in a mix of English and Hindi,and Papa CJ’s politics-inspired lines. “There is a dearth of a comprehensive comedy festivals in the country and that’s why we felt the need to come up with one,” says Jatin Verma,27,Founder of the festival. He adds that Andaz Apna Apna and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron will be screened during the festival.

Can you make an audience laugh loudest? The American channel,Comedy Central,will hold a two-day-long competition to select the Best Indian Stand-up Comedian,with the winner laughing his way to the bank with a prize of Rs 1 lakh.
