L-G grants sanction to prosecute six accused in NE Delhi riots case

All six arrested accused disclosed that they were involved in the riots, said the L-G House. They had forcefully entered the building of Saptarishi Ispat and Alloys Pvt Ltd and looted the firm's office along with other rioters, it said.

Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena granted sanction for prosecution of six persons accused in a Northeast Delhi riots case, during which a man died of a gunshot injury.

In this case, 25-year-old Shahid alias Allah Mehar, resident of Gali No 17, New Mustafabad, died due to gunshot injury on February 24, 2020.

Officials said the L-G granted prosecution sanction in the case lodged on March 3, 2020 at Dayalpur police station against Mohd Firoz, Chand Mohammad, Rais Khan, Mohammad Junaid, Irshad and Akil Ahmed for the commission of offences punishable under sections 153 A and 505 of the Indian Penal Code.

They had allegedly forcefully entered the building of Saptarishi Ispat and Alloys Private Limited and looted the office with other rioters, the L-G House said in a statement.

The victim had sustained the gunshot injury while he was on rooftop of the company’s office.

The L-G also granted sanction for prosecution of a man accused in alleged desecration of the statue of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar at a park in Madanpur Khadar area in August 2022. Officials said the approval was accorded following a request from Delhi Police against accused Rohit Harsana.
