A day after incarcerated Kashmiri separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah’s daughter expressed concern for her father’s health on social media, Tihar Jail officials in Delhi on Friday said his medical reports were “normal” and his condition is “stable”.
In an official statement, Tihar Jail authorities said that “appropriate” medical treatment has been given to him at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital.
Shah, 70, was arrested in 2017 in an alleged terror funding case and has been in Tihar Jail since 2023.
The statement released by Tihar Jail spokesperson said, “Some rumours are reportedly being circulated in the social media regarding the critical health condition of inmate Shabir Ahmad Shah.
“In this regard it is stated that inmate has been regularly provided with all medical attention and his condition is stable.”
It further stated, “Shah was referred to Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi on June 26 for OPD consultation with respect to complaints of some lower urinary tract symptoms, and he was admitted for further tests/evaluation.
“All his reports have been found to be normal and appropriate medical treatment is being provided to him at Safdarjung Hospital.”

“This is not political. This is not anti-national. This is not against any country, institution, or government. This is only about my father’s life. His health. His right to be treated with dignity. Is your conscience alive?” Shah’s daughter posted on X.
