No music, no phones allowed, a trimmed guest list, and a posse of security personnel: It was a rather somber wedding ceremony for two notorious gangsters — Kala Jathedi aka Sandeep Jhanjhariya and Anuradha Choudhary aka Madam Minz — as they tied the knot at Santosh Garden in Dwarka on Tuesday.

Jathedi, who is jailed at Mandoli prison, arrived at the wedding venue around 10 am. According to locals, police had instructed shops in the vicinity to remain closed till 5 pm and had conducted patrols two to three days before the event.

Security forces kept a close eye on the space, with personnel stationed both on the ground and on the rooftops of nearby buildings.

Police sources said roughly 150 personnel from the Special Staff, Dwarka South and Bindapur thanas, and the 3rd Battalion were stationed at the venue. Police had instructions to prevent any escape attempts or possible attacks by Jathedi’s rival gangs, said sources.

The venue was adorned with flowers and orange fabric. On one side of the mandap, the village’s women gathered, singing traditional wedding songs, while the couple sat on stage surrounded by elders who bestowed their blessings. Anuradha was dressed in a bright pink saree with silver embroidery, complemented by the groom’s white kurta-pajama paired with a deep pink floral Nehru jacket. The ceremony proceeded swiftly, as Jathedi was granted parole for six hours.

There was also a wide variety of food: Live dosa and chaat counters, a spread of nine

different types of starters, seven main dishes, and three types of desserts.

The guest list had been restricted to 150 people by the family, who had to verify their identity to the police through their Aadhaar cards. Jathedi’s brother Pradeep said: “We wanted to keep the ceremony small to avoid rush and chaos of any sort.”

Some were turned back at the gates for not being on the list. Surya Jhanjhariya, Jathedi’s paternal cousin, missed the groom’s entry to the venue by a few minutes and was barred from entering the hall.

Neither his nor his mother’s names were on the list. “He’s my brother… there are circumstances that compel people to take certain steps…,” said the 21-year-old law student.

“Many people had to make their own arrangements to go back to Sonipat because they didn’t get their ID cards,” said Raj Singh, a village elder from Jatheri. Others were impressed by Anuradha’s educational background. “She’s well-mannered and educated… and she’s trying hard to get back into society…,” said Saroj, Jathedi’s aunt.
