The Jamia Millia Islamia has decided to file a case against a guest lecturer at the Centre for Management Studies (CMS) for alleged derogatory remarks during a lecture last Friday. Students have complained that the lecturer said a burqa did not suit a management student.
The university said the remarks were communal. Jamia Registrar S M Sajid said the guest lecturer had made some derogatory remarks about students wearing hijab. The students submitted an application to the Dean, demanding action against the lecturer.
A student present in the class room told Newsline: The lecturer asked a question and my classmate could not answer. He then began commenting on the attire of girls and said a burqa did not suit a management student.
The Jamia administration has decided to terminate all future association with the lecturer.
Vice-Chancellor Najeeb Jung could not be reached for comments.
