The decomposing body of a 91-year-old woman,identified as Vimla Joshi,was found in her home in Noida Sector-26 on Tuesday.
Police said her her 61-year-old son Suraj Kumar Joshi sat with the body for two days. Police were alerted by a neighbour who noticed a foul smell emanating from the house. Police said,prima facie,it appeared that Vimla had died of natural causes.
S S Virdi,a resident of the area,said,Around 3.30 pm,I noticed the stench and called police. The mother and son were aloof,they rarely spoke to anyone.
Preetinder Singh,Senior Superintendent of Police,said Suraj appeared to suffer from mental illness and tried stopping police personnel from entering the house.
Vimla seems to have died around two days ago. Her son seems to be mentally ill. He was not very coherent when asked about the past few days. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. There were no injury marks on the body and it seems Vimla died of natural causes, Singh said.
Police said when they tried entering the house,Suraj stopped them saying my mother is very unwell.
Suraj himself was extremely emaciated and had to be taken to the hospital for a medical examination, an officer said.
Police said Vimlas husband was a retired government official and his pension was the only source of income for the two.
Suraj is a mechanical engineer who worked with ONGC in Mumbai. Suraj says that he is a gold medallist from the University of Kurukshetra. His wife,Nalini,is separated from him. We have informed their relatives in Chandigarh, the officer said.
