ICMR official hangs self

A senior official of Indian Council of Medical Research allegedly committed suicide at his residence in South Delhi on Wednesday.

A senior official of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) allegedly committed suicide at his residence in South Delhi on Wednesday. Mahender Pal Singh’s body was found hanging from the fan in his room. The police said Singh,48,was battling depression and was addicted to alcohol.

According to the police,they received a call from one of Singh’s neighbour at 9.20 am and they found the door of the house locked when they reached the spot. Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. The police said Singh was alone at home. “His wife and two children had gone to their uncle’s home in Kidwai Nagar.”

“He in a rehabilitation center for sometime to overcome his drinking problem and had recently come out,” police said. Singh,who lived in Pragati Vihar hostel,did not leave any suicide note.

Singh’s body was sent for postmortem and later handed over to the family for cremation. The police have ruled out any foul play for now.
