The evenings are perfect to bring out the compact home grills and do your own meats on the terrace. But if you arent in a do-it-yourself mood, head to Pirates of Grill,a new addition in the teeming lanes of Rajouri Garden.
At first glance, this 180-cover restaurant, with table grills, live skewers and a buffet, resembles another popular barbeque chain that is mushrooming in south Delhi. But,Pirates of Grill has some originals too. The lively décor, for instance graffiti on the walls and model wood ships placed on each table.
Once you take a seat,a live grill is tucked in the centre of the table and a selection of meat and vegetable (depending on the days menu) arrives on skewers. Add your choice of dressing and these are ready to be forked onto your plate. The grill serving are unlimited and it was only the temptation of the main course buffet that forced us to stop refilling our plates. Our meal started with hefty cuts of Achaari Murg, cooked with a generous and refreshing dose of fennel. The tandoori prawns were fresh and we brushed the curls with a soft butter dressing. The mutton seekh could be flavoured with yellow or red chili both versions turned out to be delectable.
The menu has a decent vegetarian selection. There were stuffed mushrooms, that would have benefited from a longer stay on the grills, pellets of spicy fried potatoes served with fiery red chutney, and even sautéed pok choy and crispy vegetable pouches.
The seekh kebabs and buttery curries were clearly a notch better than the Thai curries and dimsums. Trust the desi palate!
