The Delhi High Court has pulled up a senior DDA official for his “casual and irresponsible behaviour” towards the court and slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on the housing body.

The court directed DDA to pay the cost to Sudesh Gaba, the petitioner who had approached the court claiming that DDA had charged extra from him with for allotment of a flat. The court asked the housing body to deduct the money from the salary of the erring official,V P Bansal, currently posted as Deputy Director (SFS) with DDA.

According to the order, when Gaba’s petition was taken up by the court on March 5,the court wanted to know about a previous affidavit giving erroneous facts filed by DDA in the case. During the hearing,Bansal stated that the contents of the affidavit were not given by him but by his predecessor. However,Bansal later admitted to instructing the DDA counsel about the incorrect facts of the case and also tendered an unconditional apology to the court.

Justice Hima Kohli said in a recent order: “This sort of casual and irresponsible behaviour is not expected from an officer of the rank of Deputy Director of DDA.”
