HC pulls up Centre over ‘fake’ varsity

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday pulled up the Central government for falling into a “slumber” while students were reportedly getting duped.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday pulled up the Central government for falling into a “slumber” while students were reportedly getting duped because of the questionable credentials of its universities.

The court expressed its displeasure to Atul Nanda, standing counsel for the Union government, while dealing with a public interest litigation that challenged the legality of courses being offered by the Arindam Chaudhary-run IIPM. Nanda, meanwhile, sought time for presenting the government’s stand on the issue.

Taking note that the University Grants Commission and the All India Council for Technical Education had dubbed IIPM as “fake”,Justice Manmohan said: “The government gets into a slumber and students are duped in all this. You cannot just put it on the website and then do nothing.”

The court then asked the government to clarify its stand on the next date, and directed it to serve the notice to the Tamil Nadu University with which the IIPM claims to be affiliated.
