As the Aam Aadmi Party government celebrated its first year in power, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his team maintained the government was out to humbly explain the spending of public money over the past year and it was ‘accountable’ to do so.

As Kejriwal addressed a gathering of AAP legislators, party functionaries and Delhi government officials at the NDMC Convention Centre, close to protest rallies by the Congress and BJP at Jantar Mantar, the audience cheered for the CM, backing his claims of corruption-free governance.

VAT Commissioner S S Yadav lauded AAP ministers for ushering in changes in the functioning of the government and outlined achievements in every department. At the event aimed at marking the achievement of Delhi government, Kejriwal and his ministers targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Centre.

Water Resources Minister Kapil Mishra, who wrapped up the event with a poem, challenged the Modi government to work better than the AAP government and call for feedback from the public.

“Khuli chunauti tumhe hamari, humse zyada kaam karo, ek saal ki race laga lo, janta de parinaam kaho (It’s an open challenge to you, work more than us, have a race for a year, seek result from the public),” recited Mishra.

Mishra also brought up the issues Delhi government faced with Lt Governor Najeeb Jung and accused him of working at the behest of the Centre. “Humne tumhara LG jhela, null and void ke notice jhele, khel tumhara, rule tumhara, phir bhi hum dil khol kar khele. (We put up with your LG, null and void notices issued by him, the game was yours, the rules were yours, still we played with open hearts),” said Mishra.

The AAP’s Delhi unit, however, did not organise any celebratory events on the occasion.
