Police said they recovered the looted items. “We have taken the accused men on remand and will soon recover the cash and the money taken after selling the vehicle,” said an officer at Sector 56 police station. Last month, a Gurgaon University student was kidnapped, held captive for seven hours, and looted, before finally being dropped off on Golf Course Road. On Thursday, police arrested three men — Bhanu, Gaurav, and Tilak who hail from Palwal — in connection with the case.
The incident took place on the evening of August 28 when Atharv — he goes by one name — who hails from Palwal and currently resides at a paying guest accommodation in Sector 55, got a call from one of the accused, Tilak, whom he knew through his friend.
In his complaint to the police, the student said, “I had only met them once or twice. On August 28, Tilak called me via WhatsApp. He asked about my whereabouts, to which I replied that I was heading to my room. Around 4.15 pm, when I returned to my room from college, these three individuals caught me and forced me into Bhanu’s white XUV 500. They kidnapped me and threatened to kill me. They asked how much cash I had, and I told them I had Rs 1.37 lakh. They snatched my mobile phone, and through Paytm, Bhanu withdrew Rs 57,000, Tilak made two transactions of Rs 25,000 and Rs 5,000, and Gaurav withdrew Rs 20,000 from my account. Due to the daily ATM withdrawal limit, they couldn’t take more money.”
Later, the victim alleged, Tilak and Gaurav held him hostage while Bhanu went to his room and took his laptop, iPad, PlayStation, watch, earphones, and power bank.
“They also took my motorcycle, a Kawasaki Z900, from the PG’s parking lot. They then took me to Naraina in Delhi and held me hostage inside the vehicle… they forced me to call a man named Majid to sell my motorcycle, stating that I needed money urgently due to a family emergency,” he alleged.
Atharv said that he had purchased the motorcycle for Rs 8.5 lakh from Majid from a showroom in Naraina. He added that the accused negotiated the sale for Rs 5.8 lakh. Bhanu received Rs 5 lakh in cash, and the remaining Rs 80,000 was transferred to Atharv’s account by Majid, which the accused withdrew.
“After taking the money and my belongings, they dropped me off near Golf Course Road, Sector 55-56, and left,” he added.
Police said they recovered the looted items. “We have taken the accused men on remand and will soon recover the cash and the money taken after selling the vehicle,” said an officer at Sector 56 police station.
