Gurgaon JCP shielding rape case accused: Complainant

The 26-year-old complainant has threatened to file a defamation case against the JCP for “questioning her character publicly”.

After the ongoing spat between Gurgaon Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Bharti Arora and Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk — over a rape case — recently became public, the “rape survivor” is speaking up.

The 26-year-old complainant has threatened to file a defamation case against the JCP for “questioning her character publicly”. The complainant accused Arora of “shielding the accused in every possible manner”, claiming that it was an “act of desperation”.

The woman had alleged that the accused Ajay Bharadwaj —son of former Gurgaon deputy commissioner R P Bharadwaj —had promised to marry her but later refused and even threatened her. It was only because of the police commissioner that the “supplementary challan in the FIR could be moved”, stated the complainant. She also claimed that the accused and his sister Chanchal were “family friends” of the JCP.

“Why will an officer of this rank go out of her way to help such a person and his family,” said the woman. She also claimed that she had urged the state director general of police and the Haryana chief minister to remove Arora from the case.

The complainant claimed that Arora had sent a road security officer (RSO) in police uniform to her residence, who had threatened and intimidated her. “In what capacity did she send a RSO to threaten me? I had full faith in her, I thought she will understand what I am going through,” said the complainant.

Sources close to the Bharadwaj family, however, claimed that the complainant had a “history of extorting money”.
