Greater public effort needed to preserve monuments: CM

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday favoured a legislation for greater public initiative in the protection and preservation of monuments in the Capital.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday favoured a legislation for greater public initiative in the protection and preservation of monuments in the Capital. Condemning encroachments near monuments,Dikshit said 1,800 monuments in the Capital are being ‘misused’ and are in a very bad shape. “The Central government should come up with a legislation for the preservation of the cultural heritage of the country,” she said at a two-day All India Convenor’s Meeting of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH).
