In a setback to Delhi Transport Corporation’s (DTC) aim to make bus operations more effective and punctual, more than half of the GPS devices, which were fitted on 3,700 DTC buses ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, have gone missing.
Officials said 1,800 such devices have been stolen since their installation.
The DTC had installed GPS devices on both AC and non-AC low-floor buses.
The GPS devices were installed to help improve the service ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The DTC had also installed passenger information systems at various bus shelters across the city to track bus operations.
“Of the 3,700 devices, nearly 1,800 have been stolen from AC and non-AC floor buses. The DTC has registered several FIRs in this regard, but there is no clarity on who is involved in these thefts,” a senior DTC official said.
