The Delhi BJP has not been able to set its house in order, despite Vijay Goel being removed as the party’s Delhi unit chief and Harsh Vardhan appointed in his place.
In what is being seen as continued interference in Delhi BJP affairs, Goel still addresses media persons in the national capital. Party sources claimed that Goel had been made a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan to keep him away from Delhi politics.
However, the strategy does not seem to be working as he continues to dabble in party affairs by issuing statements to the media on a daily basis.
On Tuesday also, Goel issued a statement on power tariff, an issue he claimed he was the first to raise in the run-up to the Assembly elections last year.
“Strict action should be taken against officials of the power distribution companies, who are not cooperating with the CAG audit. If these companies have done nothing wrong, then why are they worried about sharing information with the CAG? I will take up the matter with the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission,” the statement said.
Earlier also, he had released a statement, claiming to have met the Home Minister to demand a speedy investigation into cases related to AAP leaders.
But Goel’s continued interference in local issues, despite being nominated to the Rajya Sabha, has angered and confused many party leaders.
These leaders believe Goel is preparing the ground to get involved in the selection process of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.
“Taken out of Delhi politics while the Lok Sabha polls are round the corner, Goel is trying to make his presence felt by issuing statements to the media. This has created a rift among the party cadre,” a senior party leader said.
