A 19-year-old guard at a high-rise residential society in Ghaziabad consumed a poisonous substance after she was allegedly raped by her supervisor Sunday and died Monday.

ACP (Wave City) Saloni Agrawal said they have arrested the supervisor and he has been sent to judicial custody. Agrawal added doctors at Safdarjung Hospital are conducting a postmortem examination of the woman’s body. “We are awaiting the postmortem report and accordingly further action will be taken,” she said.

The supervisor allegedly raped the woman inside his office at the high-rise society on Sunday afternoon. After the woman’s health worsened, she was admitted to a private hospital and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital.

“Her lungs have been badly affected according to preliminary reports… We are scanning CCTV footage of the area to find involvement of any other persons,” said an officer.

According to the police, an FIR was initially lodged under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section pertaining to gang rape where two unidentified persons were also named. However, in her statement to the magistrate under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) at the hospital, she only named the supervisor. He was subsequently held and sent to judicial custody.

According to police, she had been working at the society for the last few months and was living with her aunt nearby.
