Police claim they have clues on suspects identity; list measures to make city safer
Two days into the investigations of the gangrape of a 30-year-old woman in Dhaula Kuan, the Delhi Police has said the accused are suspected to be professional criminals. They have also released the sketch of one the suspects.
According to sources, the suspects used their mobile phones several times. To identify the numbers, the police are analysing dump data from cellphone towers near Dhaula Kuan and Mongolpuri. Sources added that the police have found one suspicious number and are trying to identify its owner. The police also detained four persons with regard to the case, but they were later released. According to a senior police officer, another witness has also come forward.
Sources said the victim, who works at a BPO in Gurgaon, was also taken to the area of the incident. She later told the police that the accused spoke in Haryanvi.
The police said a few students who live in Mochi village area, where the victim too lives, had reportedly tried to chase the tempo, which was used to abduct the woman as she was walking back home after her office cab dropped her on the Ring Road. Students who live in the area have given us some inputs about the vehicle and accused persons, said an official.
H G S Dhaliwal,Deputy Commissioner of Police (South),said the sketch has been drawn up based on the description provided by the victims friend.
A senior police officer said that the tempo did not have a number plate, which has made it difficult to track the vehicle. The police are also reportedly relying on technical surveillance, which has been increased. Checks are also being carried out at several small industrial units in the area and the Mongolpuri police have given inputs on some vehicles, which operate from that area, particularly at night.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has said they will drop any stranded woman to her house, once they are informed.
If any woman feels stranded, she is advised to call PCR helpline 100. A PCR van will then drop her at her residence, Delhi Police PRO Rajan Bhagat said.
Station house officers of all localities where a large number of women from the Northeast live have also been directed to meet them regularly and update them on security measures, he added.
