Causing more anxiety to allottees of premium flats at the Commonwealth Games Village, the Urban Development Ministry on Thursday informed the Delhi High Court that the Group of Ministers (GoM) had refused to relax norms relating to excess construction in the complex.

“The GoM has declined to relax the norms after it noted that it was not within its power to relax norms relating to the existing excess FAR (floor area ratio),” advocate Ravinder Agarwal, counsel for the Ministry, informed Justice Hima Kohli.

He was pulled up by the court for not placing on record a comprehensive affidavit on the decision on whether excess FAR could be permitted or demolition would have to be carried out.

Referring to minutes of the GoM meeting and a letter the Ministry wrote to DDA,Agarwal said: “This is the intent of the GoM and the sense is apparent from the documents.”

Pulling up the Ministry for the “vagueness” of its letter to the DDA,Justice Kohli ordered it to file a detailed affidavit, under personal endorsement of a Secretary-level officer,in two weeks.

“You need to pull up your socks. Your approach is completely disappointing. The court has deep dissatisfaction,” she said.
