Gupta in response said, the ruling party is “misusing” its power and it is unprecedented and totally unjustified”. (Express Photo)BJP MLA and former Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta has been barred from participating in the Assembly till the next budget session for “frequently obstructing” the House’s proceedings.
Speaker Ram Niwas Goel barred Gupta after all AAP MLAs moved a motion alleging that he frequently disrupted the House proceedings, on the third day of the budget session.
Earlier in the day, Gupta wrote a letter to the Speaker proposing a breach of privilege motion against Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot and Environment Minister Gopal Rai, alleging that they leaked budget details on social media before it was presented.
Responding to his request, the Speaker said, “According to rules, at least three hours should be given before issuing such notice. You are demanding discussion on this matter today itself, it looks like you want to create a ruckus and waste the time of the House.”
The Speaker gave a warning and asked Gupta to sit down and said “let the Finance Minister first present his statement…” However, he later marshalled the BJP MLA out of the House as he continued to protest.
The Speaker said that Vijender Gupta’s letter did not mention any details about the main budget, it had details of the outcome budget, which was tabled Monday.
When the House was reconvened AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha demanded that Gupta be expelled from attending House proceedings for a year. Goel passed a motion moved by AAP MLAs and suspended Gupta for a year.
Gupta in response said, the ruling party is “misusing” its power and it is unprecedented and totally unjustified”. He labelled this as a “prime illustration of the spiteful politics of CM Arvind Kejriwal, who disregards democratic values”.
Gupta said he would meet the President and Lok Sabha Speaker and raise this matter. “The party will also seek legal recourse and take to the streets to raise public awareness about CM Kejriwal’s tyranny,” he said.
