Dress up your nails with new,eco-friendly gels, gemstones and branded nail art

Purvi Dutta sits comfortably on the black cushioned chair, while two nail technicians pamper her fingers. A Pune-based interior designer,Dutta never misses her fortnightly visit to a nail bar. If she’s travelling, her appointments are booked in advance. “A woman should always have pretty nails,” she affirms, adding that nail bars offer such amazing options that customers are spoilt for choice.

Regulars at nail bars will vouch that they never have to repeat a colour or a nail art design. At Le Clinique Nail & Spa in Pune, the register has back-to-back appointments. Some are for eco-friendly gel nails, which is a raging trend, according to owner Priya Kripalani, while others are for the latest 3D styles. The nail business,it seems,is booming because women are more than pleased to be pampered.

The eco-friendly gel option is tipping the popularity scale. “These do not harm original nails. They have a permanent colour or shimmer and one doesn’t have to come in every week to change the colour or buff the nails,” points out Kripalani. There are 36 colour options, from bubblegum pink to sunset orange.

As for embellishments, the 3D nail art is keeping technicians busy. At the Juice nail bar in Pune and Mumbai, there are plenty of options to choose from — gemstones,stick-on prints and more. As Sapna Duggal, the manager, points out,“In the last one month, animal prints seem to have become the sudden favourite.” Apparently, leopard prints are most popular, while Zebra prints come in a close second.

“Nail art has become increasingly personalised. You can even flaunt your favourite brand name,” says Kripalani. Take your pick from Louis Vuitton,Chanel or Christian Dior. “With permanent French tips,we can even do Gucci,Prada,Omega and Fendi logos. We even have abstract and tribal designs,” says Kripalani.
