Delhi: Fight over who bathes first ends in teen’s death at juvenile home

“The fight was between the deceased and two others over a trivial issue of ‘who would bathe first’, and then it escalated,” said Raja Banthia, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North).

The boy was declared dead on arrival at Hindu Rao Hospital around 9.46 am.

The deceased and one of the assailants, police said, were apprehended in the same case, related to attempted murder and criminal conspiracy charges, police said.

The other assailant was detained in connection with a 2022 murder case.

“The deceased and his friend, with whom he was arrested, went to have a bath in the morning. They started arguing over who would go in first and got into a scuffle. The deceased was beating up his friend when the other accused intervened,” a police officer said.

The two accused then allegedly landed five to six punches on the teenager’s chest, who collapsed and was rushed to the hospital.

Two policemen were standing outside the washroom and intervened within a minute after the second accused entered the scuffle, said officers.

A case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 103 (1) (murder) and 3 (5) (shared intention), and a post-mortem will be conducted soon, police said.

The family of the deceased has been informed, and the Judicial Magistrate of First Class is conducting an inquiry under Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, police said.
